Breaking Down the Brackets: Midwest

Even though the Cincinnati Bearcats are in the NIT, does not mean that you won't get an awesome NCAA Tournament preview. We  kicked things off with games in the South, and East. Now, it's on to the Midwest region, aka, the region of death. Before you jump in, sign up for the Bearcats Blog Tournament Challenge. It's on ESPN.com. Search for Bearcats Blog, or click here. Stats by Ken Pomeroy.

Best Players: Wayne Chism 12.5-7.1-1.4 blocks Scotty Hobson 12.5-3.5

Big East Tournament Day 5 Recap

3 West Virginia 60 8 Georgetown 58 - Da'Sean Butler hit a runner with 4 seconds left to give West Virginia their first Big East Tournament title. Butler won the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. Butler scored his basket after Chris Wright tied the score on a lay up for Georgetown. Wright missed a lay up that would have tied the score at the buzzer. Wright also committed a foul with 27 seconds left with the score tied. Wright finished with 20-7 assists for the Hoyas. Austin Freeman had 14, including a 3 to tie the score with under a minute left. Butler led WVU with 20-6. Kevin Jones had 12, and Wellington Smith threw up a 11-10 double double. West Virginia has a case for a number 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. I think that it should probably go to them, although if it went to Duke, I wouldn't mind.

It was really nice and really weird seeing Huggins so emotional when they won. I felt really good for him, and for West Virginia. You can tell that Bob Huggins really cares about his players, his school, and representing the state. I'm not saying that he didn't at Cincinnati, but West Virginia is his home. He was able to come home, and win. His relationship with Da'Sean Butler reminds me of the one he had with all the Cincinnati greats we watched suit up. It is great to see. I know most Cincinnati fans were pulling for Huggs, at least I was, and even though he's not our coach, and I'd like people to accept the fact, it was great seeing him succeed on that stage. I hope they play well in the NCAAs. Everything happens, and the way things happened Saturday night were pretty special. Congratulations West Virginia, congratulations Da'Sean Butler, and congratulations Bob Huggins.

A couple other notes. I participated in the First Annual Big East Blogger Awards over at Voodoo 5. Our awards were a little different than the ones the Big East doled out. Check it out. I'll be doing an NCAA tournament breakdown in all probability. I love the big dance, and I'll put something together for it. I'll also have coverage for whatever tournament UC ends up in. I'll have their fate up tomorrow night. Be sure to check back, and thanks for reading.

Big East Tournament Day 4 Recap

Day 4 of 742 saw uneven action Friday night. The Big East Championship game will be played on Saturday night at 9pm. It will be televised on ESPN. I may or may not be watching, it depends on how interested I am in the Manny Pacquiao v. Joshua Clottey fight. That was crucial.com information right there. I picked West Virginia to win the Big East tournament, and that's what it looks like might happen. Will I pick it? Maybe, my prediction is at the bottom. It's an outspoken prediction on this outspoken site. Right CNati? In all seriousness, thank them for the link. I would not have blogged angry though. If I wrote the WVU-UC recap Thursday night, it would have been full of tears, and me going 'whyyyyyy, whyyyyyyy'? Let's also thank our great friends over at Card Chronicle. They linked the amazing Louisville preview on their main page, and they are great guys, and girls.

8 Georgetown 80 5 Marquette 57- The game was close at halftime, but the Hoyas laid the smack down on the Golden Eagles in the second half. The Hoyas had the lead from the get go, with a 7-0 run to start. They also led 15-4 before Marquette came back. The score at the 13 minute mark was 48-47, meaning the Hoyas closed out with a 32-10 run. Greg Monroe put on a show with 23-13-7 assists-2 blocks. Chris Wright and Jason Clark had 15, and Austin Freeman 12-8. Georgetown shot 53%.  Marquette shot 35% in the losing effort. Jimmy Butler had 17-5, Maurice Acker 16, and Lazar Hayward 15.

3 West Virginia 53 7 Notre Dame 51 - Another game in the 50s for the Mountaineers was decided on a 3 at the end. This time, it was Tory Jackson of Notre Dame taking it, and he missed. Notre Dame was down 10 with 5 minutes to go before chipping back. Cincinnati and Notre Dame have laid out how to play West Virginia. If they see a team who will slow it down in the NCAA Tournament, it could be another early exit. Ben Hansbrough had 17 to lead Notre Dame, while Luke Harangody added 10 off the bench. Tory Jackson had 7-7 assists. Da'Sean Butler put up 24-7 for the winning Mountaineers, Kevin Jones had 10, and Devin Ebanks 8-7.

Final
8 Georgetown v. 3 West Virginia - I see this game being a closely played affair. West Virginia blew the doors off the Hoyas last week, but that was with Freeman gone. He's come back, and Georgetown has been explosive. Explosive enough to spring the upset? I don't think so. I think West Virginia wins their first Big East Championship 65-61

Big East Tournament Day 3 Recap

Day 3 of 75 is in the books for the Big East Tournament. Why do I capitalize tournament sometimes and not others? I don't know, stop asking annoying questions. People don't like it. The predictions went to hell, as the top seeds had a really rough day. How rough? That's why we do the recaps. My prediction for Georgetown-Marquette is at the bottom, as is my prediction from Monday of Notre Dame-West Virginia.

8 Georgetown 91 1 Syracuse 84 - Not only did the Hoyas pull a second half rally on the Orange, but big man Arinze Oruaku went down. Doctors have said it's a strained knee, but who knows? The Hoyas turned the tables with a 17-2 run. The lead got to 7 with 3 minutes to go on an Austin Freeman lay up, and the Hoyas held on. They were powered by 27-6-6 assists by Chris Wright. Austin Freeman had 18, Jason Clark 17, and Greg Monroe 15-10-7 assists. The Orange were powered by 24-7 from the Big East Player of the Year Wesley Johnson. Scoop Jardine had 19, Kris Joseph 18-6, and Andy Rautins 14-10. No team has won a national title without winning a conference tournament game, but things like that are meant to be broken.

5 Marquette 80 4 Villanova 76 - Marquette finally turned the tables on Villanova, as they pulled out a close one against the Wildcats after losing a pair of close ones earlier this year. Lazar Hayward hit a huge 3 for the lead seconds after Corey Stokes tied the score for the Wildcats. There were 18 made 3s in the game, 11 for Marquette. The Golden Eagles were led by Darius Johnson-Odom's 24-5 assists, Lazar Hayward's 20-7, and 17 from David Cubillan. Nova was led by 22 from Stokes, and 16 from Corey Fisher.

Up next: 8 Georgetown v. 5 Marquette (ESPN 7 pm)

7 Notre Dame 50 2 Pittsburgh 45 - Slow-tre Dame put that nickname in full use, as the second half score was 18-16. The Irish luckily had a 3 point lead at the half, as you can tell. The Irish took a 5-4 lead 2:20 into the game, and never relented the lead. Pitt had the lead cut to once a couple times, and 2 late in the game. Luke Harangody travelled, but Brad Wanamaker missed a lay up. Gilbert Brown got a Panther steal, but Jermaine Dixon missed a tying jumper. Harangody got the rebound and made a pair of free throws to ice it. Harangody and Tory Jackson both had 12, but Tyrone Nash had the best statistical game with 8-6-6 assists. The assists were a career high. The Panthers were led by 16 by Brad Wanamaker and 10-5 for Dixon. Let it be known I picked Notre Dame by 5.

3 West Virginia 54 11 Cincinnati 51 - Sigh. This will be covered later.

Up next: 7 Notre Dame v. 3 West Virginia (ESPN 20 min after first game)

Predictions
Marquette 70 Georgetown 62
West Virginia 77 Notre Dame 69

Georgetown 74 Cincinnati 47

(AP/Nick Waas)

Cincinnati was hammered by Georgetown (20-9,10-8), and ended the regular season with 14 losses against 16 wins. UC finished the regular season 7-11 in the Big East, a step down from last year. UC finished up by losing 3 in a row, and 5 of 6. It has been a really horrible collapse. UC has a chance to go to the NCAA tournament if they win 5 games in 5 days in the Big East Tournament. Action tips off tomorrow at 9:30ish against Rutgers. Tip off time isn't set because the game won't start until 20 or 30 minutes after the previous game is finished. Before we get into the Big East Tournament preview (post coming later), let's relive the horrible second half that was the Georgetown game.

Cincinnati started things off well, as Lance Stephenson hit a jumper for the first bucket of the game. The teams played even going into the first media timeout, as the score was 9-9. There were buckets by Austin Freeman, a free throw by Ibrahima Thomas, a pull up j by Lance, a Greg Monroe lay up off an offensive rebound, a Jason Clark lay up off a Julian Vaughn offensive rebound, a Freeman 3, a Stephenson shot that rolled home, and Lance got to the rim, drew contact, and scored. He missed the free throw, and the teams continued the missing theme. The only bucket from the 13:53 to 11:59 mark was a Chris Wright triple. UC would get a 6-0 spurt to take the lead off a Ibrahima Thomas jumper, a Gates lay up, and a Thomas lay up. The Hoyas fired back with a 7-0 run to take a 19-15 lead after Jason Clark made a pair of free throws, and the great on this day, Austin Freeman made a 3 and a lay up. The rest of the half stayed pretty tight. An Ibby Thomas steal lead to a Steve Toyloy lay up. After Chris Wright nailed a pair of jump shots to run to the lead to 4, Rashad Bishop hit a pair of free throws. Greg Monroe hit a jump shot that was followed by back to back blown lay ups by Toyloy, who ducked as a defender jumped by and for some reason didn't dunk, and Lance Stephenson blew one off a Hoya turnover. Monroe scored with a lay up of his own though. Yancy Gates got involved by making a strong move to the basket for 2, before Chris Wright blew past Cashmere Wright for a lay up. Down 6 in the closing seconds, Cash drilled a 3 pointer to make the score at intermission 29-26 Hoyas.

I wasn't able to catch the halftime stats in full, but UC shot 11-30, 1 of 5 from 3. Georgetown shot 40%, and outrebounded UC 22-16. You can tell by the recap that Freeman, Monroe and Wright had a nice half for Georgetown, and Stephenson played well for the Bearcats. As did Ibrahima Thomas. His performance didn't translate on the box score, but he played hard, which is all we ask for.

Georgetown wasted no time in the second half showing UC that they were taking over. On the first possession, Jason Clark netted his only 3 of the contest. Lance Stephenson counted with a jumper for the Cats. In a sign of how this season has gone, Deonta Vaughn hit Rashad Bishop in the hands with a greater than half court pass that would have been sure points, but Bishop dropped it. Then, Bishop fouled Austin Freeman, who made both free throws. Yancy Gates scored inside with a foul, but UC committed a lane violation on his free throw. Adding to the frustration, Georgetown turned the ball over, but Ibrahima gave it right back with a travel. Thomas followed that up by getting called for fouls 3 and 4 in about 20 seconds at the 17:53 mark. The fourth was against Greg Monroe, who had scored. Monroe made the free throw. Down 37-30, Deonta Vaughn drew a foul and made both free throws for his only points. Deonta took 3 shots, not good enough. You are the senior leader, you have to show up buddy. Freeman continued his hot shooting by making a 3 pointer. UC got one of those back when Rashad Bishop blocked a Clark lay up, and Lance Stephenson fired an outlet pass to a cherry picking Yancy Gates who was fouled, and made 1. Gates returned that point however, as he fouled Greg Monroe, who made 1 of 2, and missed the first Hoya free throw, and got a double double with said made free throw. Lance Stephenson took us to the 15:53 under 16 media timeout with a lay up, and UC trailed 41-35.

As you can tell by looking at the headline, this is where things went off the rails. Georgetown outscored UC 33-12 down the home stretch. In fact, it deserves it's own paragraph. Things got started when Chris Wright went hard to the rim, scored, was fouled, and made the free throw. The lead hit 11 after Monroe made a hook shot, after Rashad Bishop missed 2 free throws. Gates and Stephenson both turned the ball over, and Freeman made a lay up for point 17. Gates wanted Freeman to score more, so he threw a lazy crosscourt pass that Austin plucked, and was able to draw a foul on the breakaway attempt. That was Cincinnati's 7th turnover of the half, and we were only at the 11:18  mark. Freeman made both free throws out of the media break, and the lead was 15, 51-35. Lance Stephenson broke up that 10-0 run with a lay up, the Bearcats first bucket in 5 minutes. Georgetown got their 14th offensive rebound of the game the next trip, and re-established the 16 point lead when Monroe got an open lay up off a screen and roll. Ibrahima Thomas checked back in, and missed 2 free throws, leading to Monroe driving down the lane, getting reached in on by Cashmere Wright, and scoring. Monroe converted the free throw. Lance drove hard to the tin again and scored for UC, scoring 8 of the 13 UC points of the half so far. Chris Wright took Cash to the rim right after that, drew a foul on Gates, and scored. Wright missed the free throw, but it didn't matter. Hollis Thompson, who is 4 inches shorter than Ibrahima Thomas, blocked a Thomas shot, which lead to a run out and a ridiculous Freeman lay up for a 20 point lead, 59-39. Lance Stephenson traveled taking us in to the under 8 timeout, with the Hoyas on an 18-4 run from the 15:13 mark to 8:16, and a 30-13 run in the half. It wasn't over, because of the timeout, Freeman hit a 3 as the shot clock was winding down. It was the last of Freeman's 24. Stephenson made another lay up for the Bearcats, but Chris Wright made another for the Hoyas on a brilliant back cut and great pass from Monroe. Yancy Gates had another inept UC possession, where he threw a shot off the side of the backboard, got it back, and was blocked by Hollis Thompson, leading to a Clark lay up. Lance Stephenson tried to save a loose ball on the next UC possession, but threw it right to Wright, who passed up ahead to Monroe, who slammed it down. Hollis Thompson made a pair of free throws, and the score was 70-41 when I stopped watching to make this post. Since I'm diligent, I found how the last 11 points were scored. Jason Clark made a jumper, Rashad Bishop a lay up from Cash, Clark got a steal from Thomas, passed to Wright, who passed to Julian Vaughn for a lay up, Lance Stephenson made a 3 from Cash at the 2:23 mark, and with 22 seconds left, Cash made 1 of 2 at the stripe.

Austin Freeman had a tremendous game back in his first outing since his diabetes diagnosis. Freeman had 24 points, Greg Monore 19-15, Chris Wright 16-4 assists, Jason Clark 11-5, Hollis Thompson 2-4-2 blocks, Julian Vaughn 2-5. Georgetown was 28-60 46.7%, 6-22 from deep, and 12-14 at the stripe, with 37 rebounds, 13 offensive, but maybe that's not right. Georgetown also had 15 assists. For Cincinnati, Lance Stephenson played very well yet again. Stephenson had 23-7, Yancy Gates 7-6 (yes that was the drop off), Ibrahima Thomas 5-4-4 steals-3 blocks, Cashmere Wright 4-3 assists, Rashad Bishop 4, Deonta Vaughn 2-4 assists, Steve Toyloy 2. UC shot 19-49 38.8%, 2-10, 7-17 horribly from the stripe, and had 26 rebounds, 10 offensive. UC also had 16 turnovers to 12 assists.

After the game, Mick Cronin said something along the lines of that this team wasn't collapsing, they just had a lot of bad breaks. They were in the Nova game, they had WVU taken from them, Marquette was close, South Florida was blah blah blah. Mick just needs to buck up and say that UC lost. I'm tired of his excuses of, 'we haven't had this happened.' Oh really, what about the abysmal effort against USF? What about the domination by Syracuse? Just admit that your team wasn't as good as the other one for a change. There is no shame in saying that the other team played better. Just throw in that our team will play that well in the next game. Don't say 'it's not my fault.' Take some responsibility Mick. I like you, but you are really making it hard to sometimes.

Here we come CBI

Cincinnati was destroyed today against Georgetown. You should be lucky the game wasn't on tv. It's not over as I type this, but it's 72-41, so I don't think I'm jumping the gun. What a pathetic effort in the second half. Georgetown played great. Austin Freeman had 24 in his first game back from being diagnosed with diabetes. Greg Monore had 17-15-2 steals. Lance Stephenson has 23 for UC, a new career high. Who's ready to play at 2:30 on Tuesday?

Questions and Answers: Starring Causal Hoya

For the second time today, we here at Bearcats Blog bring you a guest. This time, it's with the great Georgetown blog, and global phenomenon, Casual Hoya. Their site is one I hit up every day, and I think that you should as well. Will you see that type of ringing endorsement later on in the Know Your Opponent post? Yes. As tends to be the thing with most of these questions, I answered some on their great site. Sleeping with the enemy is a much cooler name than questions and answers. I wish I wasn't lame in titling things. If there were a slew of Cincinnati blogs, this one would be called something like UCincinBearcatBlog or something weird like that. Enough of this. Let's get on to the interview shall we? We shall. The font is different for some reason. I just copied it from G Mail, don't judge too harshly.

The Big East was stunned with the news of Austin Freeman's diabetes. Has Georgetown announced any news about a possible return?
I think everyone was stunned.  There hasn’t been any official announcement out of the school, but our guess based on our crack research of diabetes is that Freeman could probably give it a go Saturday, but may sit out so that docs can monitor his various bodily functions to get him on a proper treatment plan so he’ll be good to go for the Big East Tournament.   Clearly the first priority is making sure he’s healthy, and then the basketball stuff will figure itself out. That being said, if he doesn’t play the Hoyas are screwed.  That much is undeniable.
What's gone wrong for the Hoyas as they've lost 4 of 5?
This is a flawed team but the one thing that has stood out in recent years when they’ve had similar skids is the lack of a player who can get a score when needed. In contrast to the Jeff Green teams (where Green could put the ball on the floor to get a shot), the best players in recent years have been big guys, such as Hibbert and Monroe, and each of them need to get the ball in the post to really be effective (Hibbert’s shot against UConn aside). Wright and Freeman have shown flashes where they can score in bunches but the team usually hits a lull and falls into a long stretch without a bucket. Couple that with a more deliberate offense and once they get down, it’s difficult to dig back out.
Of course, losing breeds losing, and to this point (and it’s pretty late in the season), there isn’t a true leader on the team. Both Monroe and Freeman have moments of dominance but each seems to be pretty quiet and unassuming on the court. Wright also dominates at times but like many of us in the stands, I think the team believes he’s often gunning for himself rather than for them.

Greg Monroe is great. Would you like to tell the readers how special he is?
I’m glad you think Monroe is great, I haven’t been convinced.  Monroe’s clearly a special talent, but he can use another year in school to develop his body in the weight room and needs to improve his ability to score with his right hand.   He can certainly dominate games against less physical opponents, but put a beast on him and he becomes a bit timid. Monroe came to Georgetown with a lot of hype as the #1 high school recruit in the country.  Other #1 recruits out of high school included Lebron James, Michael Beasley, Kevin Durant, and Derrick Rose.  Monroe is nowhere near at that level right now.  Could he be?  Perhaps.

There is a traitor list on your site. How big an issue are the people who buy season tickets and flip them?
A huge momma issue.  Look, we are a small, Catholic school playing in an NBA arena in a major commuter city.  As much as we would like the Hoyas to be the main attraction in DC, they are not and will never be.  The Terps get more press coverage than Georgetown in the local media.  The only thing we have going for us is the lower bowl of the Verizon Center, which is supposed to be a safe-haven for Hoya fans.  Tickets to the lower bowl are mostly sold as season packages to Georgetown students, alums and fans.  But there have been certain games this year where even the lower bowl wasn't gray, against Cuse it was 50% orange.  Fans are selling their tickets to other teams' fans.  I hope that most of them do not realize what they are doing, but there needs to be a better solution for getting Georgetown tickets in the hands of Georgetown fans.  That is how the traitor list was born, it is really just a brutal reminder that you should be accountable for distributing your tickets responsibly.  Georgetown also has a problem with scalpers buying season ticket packages and putting everything on StubHub - the traitor list helps identify repeat offenders or problem sections. We are working on more "positive" ideas with Georgetown organizations as well but for those fans that show up every game only to be out-cheered by opposing fans with better seats, a solution cannot come quickly enough

What do you see happening with Georgetown if Pittsburgh leaves and the league disbands?
I think that if we lose a football school, especially one as important to Big East football as Pitt, the Big East will disband.  At the end of the day, as much as I hate it, football decides what happens in college athletics; it is where all the money is.  The Big 10, Big 12 and ACC will swallow the other seven football schools, leaving Georgetown, Villanova, St. John's, Providence, Seton Hall, Marquette, DePaul and Notre Dame to fend for themselves.  Notre Dame will be forced to join a conference after NBC drops them and the remaining schools bring on St. Joe's, Xavier, and Dayton to form a basketball-only conference.  They get no TV exposure, lose all recruits and are forced to take part in an experimental underwater basketball league run by Vince McMahon.
Only one thing I said above is unlikely, and sadly it has to do with ND.

The last 2 Georgetown home wins were attended by President Obama and Joe Biden for Duke, and Nancy Pelosi for Villanova. Are any more cabinet members attending the game Saturday?
Not sure about the cabinet, but the guy who installed my California closets will be there.   If you’d like I can get you an autograph. (Ed Note: YES)

Bill Kock, er Koch, really asked for money to answer questions for your site? Feel free to rip him some here.
Ahh yeah, that happened. We thought he was joking initially, and we offered him a sweet casual headband, which he declined. Apparently he hasn't realized that the old newspaper model is dead and that our blog will be around a lot longer than his job. Was that too much? Well here's some compensation for you, Koch. (Insert a picture of a middle finger).

What do you see going down Saturday? Final score prediction?
Big game for both teams, no doubt. I’d expect a pretty strong home court for Gtown that will power them to victory – particularly with a turbulent week as Freeman received some awful news – Gtown by 8: 72-64.

Finally, what the hell is a Hoya?
A Hoya is what’s going to kick your ass on Saturday.

Yeah, I walked right into that one. Thanks a thousand times to our friends at Casual Hoya. They do a great job, and we wish them a ton of luck after Saturday, and if we meet them in the Big East Tournament.

Big East Breakdown

The Big East season is in full swing. Everyone has played 8 games, except Louisville, West Virginia and UConn who played 7, and Georgetown who played 9. I figure we look at who everyone beat, who beat them, who they have for the next 5 conference games, their chances on winning the regular season, conference tournament and making the NCAA. It'll be easier than it sounds.

1. Villanova Wildcats 8-0. 19-1
Key Players: Scottie Reynolds 18.7 pts 3.3 assts. Corey Fisher 13.3 pts 4.3 asst. Antonio Pena 10.8 pts 7.6 rbs
Who They Beat: Marquette (2), Louisville, DePaul, Georgetown, Rutgers, St John's, Notre Dame
Who Beat Them: No one
Who's Next: Seton Hall, @Georgetown, @West Virginia, Providence, UConn
Regular Season Champ %: 74. They travel to Pitt and Syracuse as well as the games above. They have tough sledding ahead.
B.E Tournament Champ%: 78.
NCAA %: 100. Only an injury or a severe fade keeps the Wildcats out

2. Syracuse Orange 7-1. 20-1
Key Players: Wesley Johnson 17.1 pts 9 rbs. Andy Rautins 10.6 pts 5.2 assts Kris Joseph 10.2 pts 5.1 rbs
Who They Beat: Seton Hall, South Florida, Rutgers, West Virginia, Marquette, Notre Dame, Georgetown
Who Beat Them: Pittsburgh
Who's Next: @DePaul, Providence, @Cincinnati, UConn, Louisville
Regular Season Champ %: 84. I really like this Orange team. They play together great, and they lock down defensively. I think Wes Johnson is the best player in the Big East.
B.E Tournament Champ%: 83. I think right now they are the favorites to do what Louisville did last year. However, I don't think it will happen
NCAA %: 100. Same reason as above

3. Pittsburgh Panthers 6-2. 16-4
Key Players: Ashton Gibbs 17.1 pts 2.9 rbs. Brad Wanamaker 12.8 pts 6.6 rbs 4.3 assts Gilbert Brown 9.7 pts 3.6 rbs
Who They Beat: DePaul, Syracuse, Cincinnati, UConn, Louisville, St John's
Who Beat Them: Georgetown, Seton Hall
Who's Next: @South Florida, @WVU, Seton Hall, WVU, @Marquette
Regular Season Champ %: 72. Pitt might have played their best basketball of the season, but there is a chance they could get 8 more wins in conference. They have proved that were better than everyone thought coming into the season.
B.E Tournament Champ%: 62. I don't think this is the type of team that could make a run in MSG
NCAA %: 96. They have some good wins, and they should make it

4. West Virginia Mountaineers 5-2. 16-3
Key Players: Da'Sean Butler 15.9 pts 6.4 rbs 3.5 assts. Kevin Jones 14.1 pts 7.8 rbs. Devin Ebanks 11.5 pts 8 rbs
Who They Beat: Seton Hall, Marquette, Rutgers, South Florida, DePaul
Who Beat Them: Notre Dame, Syracuse
Who's Next: Louisville, Pittsburgh, @St Johns, Villanova, @Pittsburgh
Regular Season Champ %: 66. The schedule toughens up on Hugg's boys. The lack of a point guard has hurt them in all their losses, and I think it's going to hurt their chances of winning the regular season.
B.E Tournament Champ%: 70. This is the type of team that could be a nightmare in the BET
NCAA %: 95. They have a nice resume, and shouldn't drop that many BE games to make it an issue. How long they last in the tournament is another story.

5. Georgetown Hoyas 6-3. 15-4
Key Players: Andy Freeman 16 pts 3.9 rbs. Greg Monroe 14.8 pts 10.1 rbs. Chris Wright 14.6 pts 4.2 assts
Who They Beat: St John's, DePaul, UConn, Seton Hall, Pittsburgh, Rutgers
Who Beat Them: Marquette, Villanova, Syracuse
Who's Next: South Florida, Villanova, @Providence, @Rutgers, Syracuse
Regular Season Champ %: 69. There's a chance they could run the table. They play @Louisville, and @WVU though. There's also a chance they could not score, and they could lose to anyone.
B.E Tournament Champ%: 60. I don't like this squad to pull off a run like that.
NCAA %: 93. They beat Temple and Butler non conference, and they'll finish above .500 in the BE, which should be enough.

6. Louisville Cardinals 4-3. 13-7
Key Players: Samardo Samuels 15.9 pts 7.6 rbs. Edgar Sosa 13.9 pts 3.8 assts. Preston Knowles 8.8 pts 3.8 rbs
Who They Beat: South Florida, Providence, St John's, Cincinnati
Who Beat Them: Villanova, Pittsburgh, Seton Hall
Who's Next: @WVU, UConn, Rutgers, @St John's, @Syracuse
Regular Season Champ %: 9. The odds fall off the charts after Georgetown. The middle of the conference is good, do not get me wrong. But they can't afford to slip up the rest of the way to catch Nova and Syracuse.
B.E Tournament Champ%: 20. Louisville jumped out to big leads on Nova and Pitt, and with their pressure they could pull off the 4 day sweep. However, they lost to Nova and Pitt, so they could lose day 1.
NCAA %: 64. Louisville doesn't really have much in the resume, but I think they are a little better than the rest of the Big East, and will find a way to make it in the Big Dance.

7. Cincinnati Bearcats 4-4. 13-7
Key Players: We know who they are, we can skip this part
Who They Beat: UConn, Rutgers, Notre Dame, South Florida
Who Beat Them: Pittsburgh, Seton Hall, St John's, Louisville
Who's Next: Providence, @Notre Dame, Syracuse, @UConn, @South Florida
Regular Season Champ %: 5.
B.E Tournament Champ%: 11. I don't think there is much chance UC could run the gauntlet of the BET. I think that they need to win some games in it though. They need the first round bye.
NCAA %: 60. The wins over Maryland and Vandy look good, so do wins over fellow bubblers ND and UConn. The Bearcats have to get some wins now.

7. Notre Dame Fighting Irish 4-4. 15-6
Key Players: Luke Harangody 24.5 pts 9.9 rbs. Tim Abromaitis 16.7 pts 4.5 rbs. Ben Hansbrough 11.5 pts 5 assts
Who They Beat: Providence, South Florida, West Virginia, DePaul
Who Beat Them: UConn, Cincinnati, Syracuse, Villanova
Who's Next: @Rutgers, Cincinnati, South Florida, @Seton Hall, St John's
Regular Season Champ %: 5. It could be higher, but they play no defense
B.E Tournament Champ%: 15. It's not out of the realm of possibility this team shoots lights out for 4 days.
NCAA %: 61. ND doesn't have much in their resume, but they can get over 20 wins and that might be enough. The next 5 games are crucial. If they lose any, their chances go down a lot.

7. Providence Friars 4-4. 12-8
Key Players: Jamine Peterson 17.9 pts 10.3 rbs. Sharaud Curry 15 pts 3.8 assts. Marshon Brooks 15 pts 4.6 rbs
Who They Beat: St John's, Rutgers, DePaul, UConn
Who Beat Them: Notre Dame, Louisville, Marquette, South Florida
Who's Next: @Cincinnati, @Syracuse, Marquette, Georgetown, @Villanova
Regular Season Champ %: 5. They also don't play much defense, and have a brutal stretch as you can see.
B.E Tournament Champ%: 10
NCAA %: 20. I just don't see it for the Friars. They lost to Iona, which is their only bad loss, and also lost to every other good team they've played.

10. Connecticut Huskies 3-4. 13-7
Key Players: Jerome Dyson 19.1 pts 4.9 assts 4.7 rbs. Stanley Robinson 16.8 pts 7.4 rbs. Kemba Walker 13.4 pts 6.2 assts 4.1 rbs
Who They Beat: Notre Dame, Seton Hall, St John's
Who Beat Them: Cincinnati, Georgetown, Pittsburgh, Providence
Who's Next: @Louisville, DePaul, @Syracuse, Cincinnati, @Villanova
Regular Season Champ %: 8. Just because of the talent level. I doubt they win any of the road games though. Maybe Louisville, since they match up well with them it seems. But without Calhoun, who knows?
B.E Tournament Champ%: 10. Talent level respect, even though they would have to win 5 games in 5 days at this point.
NCAA %: 60. I don't know what to make of UConn. They are wildly inconsistent. The win over Texas could help, but that out be an outlier. The beat down against Providence was surprising.

11. South Florida Bulls 3-5. 13-7
Key Players: Dominique Jones 21.4 pts 6 rbs 4.3 assts. Jarrid Famous 11.7 pts 8.1 rbs. Chris Howard 9.7 pts 3.9 rbs
Who They Beat: Rutgers, Providence, Seton Hall
Who Beat Them: Louisville, Notre Dame, Syracuse, West Virginia, Cincinnati
Who's Next: Pittsburgh, @Georgetown, @Notre Dame, @Marquette, Cincinnati
Regular Season Champ %: 3. What a ridiculous schedule
B.E Tournament Champ%: 6. No way a team runs all 5 games, but Dom. Jones gives them a fighters chance every night.
NCAA %: 11. Stranger things have happened. They have won 2 in a row, and get Augustus Gilchrist back soon

11. Seton Hall Pirates 3-5. 12-7
Key Players: Jeremy Hazell 22.5 pts 3.6 rbs. Herb Pope 12.3 pts 11.4 rbs. Jeff Robinson 9.7 pts 5.5 rbs
Who They Beat: Cincinnati, Louisville, Pittsburgh
Who Beat Them: West Virginia, Syracuse, UConn, Georgetown, South Florida
Who's Next: @Villanova, @Pittsburgh, Notre Dame, DePaul, @St John's
Regular Season Champ %: 4.
B.E Tournament Champ%: 6. Maybe Hazell shoots out of his mind for a week.
NCAA %: 35. The Pirates looked like they were making a move, and then lost to South Florida. They don't have the most brutal schedule, but they play 6 road games and I don't trust them.

11. Marquette Golden Eagles 3-5. 12-8
Key Players: Lazar Hayward 18.1 pts 7.7 rbs. Jimmy Butler 14.8 pts 6.6 rbs. Darius Johnson-Odom 12.4 pts 2.4 assts
Who They Beat: Georgetown, Providence, Rutgers
Who Beat Them: West Virginia, Villanova (2), DePaul, Syarcuse
Who's Next: @UConn, DePaul, @Providence, South Florida, Pittsburgh
Regular Season Champ %: 5. Their schedule eases up some, and I think the Eagles can make a run to the middle of the pack.
B.E Tournament Champ%: 6. They have a nice team, but a propensity for losing close games. I don't think there's enough there to go on that big a run.
NCAA %: 29. They have 2 good wins against Xavier and Georgetown, but not much else. Their  close game losses are really hurting their portfolio.

14. St John's Red Storm 2-6. 12-8
Key Players: DJ Kennedy 15 pts 6.4 rbs 3.2 assts. Dwight Hardy 11.9 pts 2.3 rbs. Paris Horne 8.3 pts 2.3 rbs
Who They Beat: Cincinnati, DePaul
Who Beat Them: Georgetown, Providence, Louisville, UConn, Villanova, Pittsburgh
Who's Next: @Rutgers, WVU, Louisville, @Notre Dame, Seton Hall
Regular Season Champ %: 3.
B.E Tournament Champ%: 3. They would have to go on a crazy run to get a bye. Maybe they could win a game though.
NCAA %: 15.

15. DePaul Blue Demons 1-7. 8-12
Key Players: Will Walker 16.1 pts 3.2 rbs. Mack Koswahl 14 pts 10.5 rbs Mike Stoval 7.1 pts 2.7 rbs
Who They Beat: Marquette
Who Beat Them: Pittsburgh, Georgetown, Villanova, Providence, St John's, Notre Dame, West Virginia
Who's Next: Syracuse, @Marquette, @UConn, @Seton Hall, Rutgers
Regular Season Champ %: 2. At least they won a conference game
B.E Tournament Champ%: 2. They were 1/5 of the way there last year.
NCAA %: 2.

16. Rutgers Scarlet Knights 0-8. 9-11
Key Players: Mike Rosario 15.3 pts 4.2 rbs. Jonathan Mitchell 10.1 pts 5.1 rbs. Hamady Ndiaye 9.1 pts 6.5 rbs.
Who They Beat: No one
Who Beat Them: Cincinnati, West Virginia, Providence, Syracuse, South Florida, Villanova, Georgetown, Marquette
Who's Next: Notre Dame, St John's, @Louisville, Georgetown, @DePaul
Regular Season Champ %: 1
B.E Tournament Champ%: 1. The 16 seed won a game last year
NCAA %: 1. Everyone has a chance, no matter how small.
